Corbet’s Group Mothar Mountain Speedway’s 3rd November race meeting made all of the promises that it was going to be an absolutely unforgettable, action packed night of racing with large fields of nominations in all divisions.
The second running of the Zinc 96.1 Production Sedan Race of Champions attracted a huge field of competitors showcasing the high prestige the event has gained with drivers.
The heats produced extreme amounts of speed and close paint swapping action that has become the norm on the Mountain for Production Sedans. Maryborough’s Joel Berkley continued his good early season form to become the first qualifier for the final. He was joined by fellow Maryborough driver Josh Arthur and Gympie based drivers Daniel Henshaw and Rory Evans for the 4 by 4 lap final for the Title.
Josh Arthur’s attempt to win the Zinc 96.1 Race of Champions came to an abrupt end in heat 1 when he damaged his car in contact with the fence in the main straight.
Joel Berkley narrowly won heat 1 from Daniel Henshaw and Rory Evans.
Heat 2 saw the demise of Rory Evans with front end damage. Joel Berkley again went on to narrowly defeat Daniel Henshaw over the 4 laps.
The third heat turned out to be a match race between Joel and Daniel which Joel eventually won.
Joel Berkley was declared the winner of the Zinc 96.1 Production Sedan Race of Champions 2018 from Daniel Henshaw, Rory Evans and Josh Arthur.
Zinc 96.1 has already indicated their support for the event in 2019.
Gympie’s Daniel Henshaw enjoys his lap of honour after securing a hard fought Production Sedan feature win on 3rd November at Corbet’s Group Mothar Mountain Speedway.
The Production Sedan feature race that ended the activities on the Mountain on 3rd November was another Production Sedan classic.
With a number of stoppages ensuring that the field was close together for the majority of the 20 lap distance of the feature event; the action just kept coming. Rory Evans and Daniel Henshaw battled for the lead for most of the race. Joel Berkley made a very rare error about mid race that saw him drop back through the field. He was unable to get back to the front.
Daniel Henshaw took the lead on the final lap to record a memorable victory from Rory Evans, who is only in his first season of speedway competition. Sunshine Coast’s Brendon Cowley came home third.
