Safety Standards Effective July 2008

To clarify the situation with what safety equipment is required for speedway competition the following is effective.
Apparel – Minimum standard for NASR AA, A Licence categories (including Super Sedans but excludes AMCA and all other sedans) – SFI 3.2A/5 or FIA 8856-2000 plus underwear conforming with SFI 3.3 or FIA 8856-2000.
Apparel – Minimum standard for NASR B, ASCF, V, Juniors licence categories (including AMCA and all sedans except Super Sedans) – SFI 3.2A/1 suit (or the higher standard apparel) plus underwear conforming with SFI 3.3 or FIA 8856-2000.
Note – all drivers must wear cotton under-garments and for females no under wires on bras. There must be no synthetic attire and no jewellery to be worn by a competitor whilst competing.
Balaclavas are compulsory and must comply with SFI 3.3 or FIA 8856-2000.
Gloves are compulsory and must comply with SFI 3.3 or FIA 8856-2000. It is recommended they are the Gauntlet Style glove and they must not be modified in any way.
Boots must comply with SFI 3.3 or FIA 8856-2000.
Socks must be nomex as obtained from race suit clothing providers.
Helmet – drivers in all categories must wear full faced helmets.
For NASR AA and A licenced categories (including Super Sedans but excluding AMCA and all other sedan sections) helmets must comply with the Snell SA-2000 or Snell SA-2005 standard.
For NASR B, ASCF, V and Junior licenced categories (including AMCA and all sedans except Super Sedans) helmets must comply with the AS1698 Standard.
Helmets must be no older than 5 years from manufacturer date, with a recommendation for the use of a Snell rated helmet.
No head and neck restraint device allowed with an AS1698 helmet but a horse collar must be worn.
From 1st July 2007 full face helmets must be used.
Head and Neck Restraints must be SFI 38.1 approved. Currently there are 5 devices that are of the SFI 38.1 standard and they are:
HANS Device, Hutchens Devices (which includes R3, Hybrid and Hutchens 11 Pro), Leatt Brace
Head and Neck Restraints are to be compulsory for all NASR AA, a licenced categories including Super Sedans but excluding all other sedans and AMCA.
It is highly recommended that all other categories wear head and neck restraints.
Head and Neck Restraints are strongly recommended for all junior drivers.
A horse collar is compulsory without a head and neck restraint, however, if a head and neck restraint is worn, then a horse collar is optional.
Infield Apparell – All persons on the infield must be wearing long pants (no shorts).
Sitting on the side of race car whilst being pushed by push car is not permitted from 1st July 2007.
