Miller Chasing NSSS Success
17/10/07…NASR/SSA Media Release
Widely regarded as one of the nicest guys in Australian speedway, South Australia’s Bill Miller is a popular figure amongst sedan fans and competitors alike. In fact, Miller’s reputation as a good bloke sometimes overshadows the incredible amount of success Miller has enjoyed behind the wheel of his trusty pink Pontiac. As a pivotal figure within South Australia’s Super Sedan ranks for many years as a sponsor and administrator as well as a competitor, series organisers are very pleased to confirm Bill Miller as a contracted driver with the 2007/2008 National Super Sedan Series.
However, it isn’t just a unique colour scheme or a larrikin personality that makes Miller such an imposing figure on the South Australian speedway landscape, it is perhaps more likely the fact that he habitually finishes near the front of the field whenever a Super Sedan event is staged in South Australia. If not making one of his regular visits to victory lane, you can be sure that Miller will be somewhere on the podium or lurking ominously in pursuit of the leaders when the chequer falls.
Miller as never been afraid to traverse Australia in search of the best competition at the biggest events and, despite not possessing the budget enjoyed by so many of his rivals, he has been an avid supporter of the National Super Sedan Series from the outset. In the inaugural series, Miller overcame some significant setbacks to finish tenth overall. Last season, Miller was again on track for a top ten finish in the expanded series until a disappointing final round at Murray Bridge relegated him to 16th in the series standings. With a new car under construction though, Miller will be looking to make amends this season.
Despite his NSSS disappointment last season, Miller bounced back immediately with a slashing victory in the South Australian Championship at Whyalla Speedway. Since making the transition from Formula 500’s to Super Sedans via a stint in the Speedcar ranks, Miller’s dominance of the South Australian scene has included an unprecedented seven consecutive wins in the local Club Championship, however this was his first state title victory. On three previous occasions Miller has finished on the podium in the state title, filling the runner-up spot in the 1998/1999 championship staged over two rounds at Renmark and Waikerie. The 2001/2002 season saw Miller finish in third spot at Broken Hill, a feat he repeated the following year in a return visit to Waikerie’s Sunline Speedway.
Miller’s success certainly hasn’t been restricted to the local scene though as the 1999/2000 season saw him snare a fine third-place finish in the Australian Super Sedan Championship in Hobart, while the 2004/2005 season saw Miller score the same result in the Victorian Championship at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway.
Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are very pleased to confirm Bill Miller as a contracted driver in the 2007/2008 National Super Sedan Series. Other drivers confirmed for the series include Wayne Randall, Brad Smith, Michael Gee, Dave Gartner, Paddy Ward, Jamie McHugh, Darren Kane and Steve Jordan.
