Government Changes the Association Laws

Government Changes the Association Laws…18/06/07…Pam Franz

Quote from Qld Government  Office of Tourism and Fair Trading:

“Qld’s Clubs and associations are the lifeblood of our community.  That’s why the Beattie Government recently reformed the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 which governs how your association runs.  The reforms will reduce the financial and administrative pressure on associations, freeing up management committee members, employees and volunteers to concentrate on their members.

The changes are effective Friday 15th June, 2007.

There are five fact sheets designed to assist you to understand your rights and responsibilities with respect to these changes.  They are about:

1.  Changes to association Laws   2.  Public Liability insurance for associations  3.  Association’s financial reporting requirements  4.  Association rule changes for financial reporting requirements and  5.  Association Rules

For more information or to obtain copies of these fact sheets contact the Office of Fair Trading, your local state Member of Parliament, or you can visit the Office of Fair Trading website at www.fairtrading.qld.gov.au or call 13 13 04″

All clubs registered with the Office of Fair Trading should have received this letter – it is important to work out where your club falls in the new criteria as some clubs will now not be required to have their Financial records audited by an Accountant.
