Big Field for Brisbane
31/10/07…SSA Media Release
What a difference a week makes! After a slow start to the season with smaller than usual fields, the 2006/2007 Ian Boettcher Volkswagen Super Sedan Championship Series heats up this weekend with a bumper line-up of V8 stars primed to tackle Brisbane International Speedway on Saturday night (November 3). More than 20 cars have nominated for competition in what is shaping as a terrific night of tin top action.
Headlining the line-up for round five is defending series champ and current point leader Wayne Brims, who will be chasing his fourth feature race win of the season. In fact, Brims has finished on the podium at every round thus far in what has been a remarkable start to the season for the New South Wales-based steerer. Jamie McHugh and Ian Brims have been the other standout performers throughout the opening weeks of the competition and both drivers are again expected to feature prominently at the front of the field.
The much-improved Steve Pearce has demonstrated some genuine pace this season and will be determined to convert this speed into results and establish himself as a regular front runner in the competition. Others who have been on the pace throughout the early weeks of the season and are expected to be at the forefront of the action again this weekend are Darren Kane, Des Korn, Craig McGeorge and Chris Albert.
However, there are some heavy hitters amongst those making their first appearance for the season, including Wayne Miles, Geoff Phillips, Peter Warren, Frank Armstrong and the Central Queensland-based trio of Michael Doblo, Chris Bussey and Will Gould. Also in the 23-car field for Saturday night’s showdown are Paul Geary, Alan Williams, Dean Hawkins, Barry Craft, Trevor Brehmer, Alan Robertson, Ray Lane and Steve Van Zeeland.
For the first time this season, the SSA will utilise the National Super Sedan Series format comprising two rounds of heats which will determine the top ten qualifiers for the A and B Dashes. The finishing order in the two Dashes will decide the starting order on the first five rows of the grid for the 30-lap feature event.
Forget what you’ve seen so far this season and get your backside trackside at BIS on Saturday night for the a feast of full throttle Super Sedan excitement. Gates open at 4.00pm and racing gets underway at 6.00pm.
