Super Sedan Series Heads South…30/11/06…SSA Media Release

The A.S. Concrete Pumping Super Sedan Championship Series heads south to New South Wales this weekend with round seven to be decided at Bartercard Lismore Speedway on Saturday night (December 2).  With six different winners from as many rounds so far, the scene is set for another terrific tussle from many of Australia’s best tin top exponents.

A 19-car field has nominated for competition, led by series leader Darren Kane.  Looking to expand his point advantage and avenge the disappointment of the previous round that saw him forced out of the event while leading with just two laps remaining, Kane will be determined to become the first driver to score multiple feature wins this season.  The former Tasmanian has been in sensational form from the opening round of the series and heads into Lismore as a firm favourite.

In what will be a rare opportunity to perform in front of their home crowd, the small local contingent will be looking to thwart the interstate challenge and emerge victorious.  Tania Smith, Wayne Brims and Ian Brims are the only three New South Wales-based cars in the field and all three are amongst the six drivers who have won a series round this season.  Smith won the opening round and led the series through the opening weeks of the season, only to suffer some misfortunes in recent events that have seen her drop to fourth in the standings.  Wayne Brims was victorious in round two and finished third last weekend to be placed third overall in the championship, while Ian Brims is fresh from a win in round six in Brisbane last weekend and will be confident of duplicating that performance.

Meanwhile, defending series champion Wayne Randall and Queensland champion Michael Gee will be looking to secure their first win of the season.  Randall started his racing career in Lismore and still rates the track as one of his favourites.  Gee, meanwhile, has had mixed fortunes previously in Lismore, a runner-up finish in the New South Wales Championship tempered by some spectacular crashes in recent outings at the circuit. Recent weeks have seen both drivers in strong form with appearances on the podium and the duo will be determined to visit victory lane.

Also travelling from Queensland and expected to feature prominently in the results are John McGeorge, Steve Jordan and Mark Pagel.  McGeorge took out round five of the series in Toowoomba and has previously won a feature race at Lismore, while Jordan has twice finished on the podium this season and is edging closer to a breakthrough win.  Pagel has been consistent each week, securing top five results in every round to be placed second overall in the series standings.

Other drivers taking part include Greg Maher and Lenny Black, both of whom are placed inside the top ten in the series points, along with Tony Brinkman, Frank Armstrong, Gavin Northfield, Chris Albert, Steve Van Zeeland, Barry Craft and Gladstone’s Will Gould.
