Randall Ready for Title Defence
Randall Ready for Title Defence…29/09/06…NASR/ASCF Media Release
Defending series champion Wayne Randall has been confirmed as the first contracted driver in the 2006/2007 National Super Sedan Series. Having triumphed in the inaugural series last season, Randall is looking forward to the challenge of defending his title against the very best drivers from across the country. Equal measures of experience, speed and consistency were the ingredients for success last season, with Randall winning two rounds and becoming the only driver to finish each of the six feature events, finishing inside the top ten on each occasion.
Randall has been at the forefront of Australian speedway sedan competition for 25 years and his victory in the first ever national competition for Super Sedans was a fitting reward for his commitment to the category. Randall is one of Australia’s most successful Super Sedan drivers with a multitude of feature race wins and championship victories throughout a lengthy career. In addition to his National Series success, Randall enjoyed a stellar run of success throughout the 2005/2006 season and compiled eight feature race wins in taking out the Super Sedan Association Championship Series for the second time. He also won the prestigious $5000-to-win Central Queensland Grand Prix in Rockhampton and picked up another $5000 for winning the Hobart Super Sedan Grand National.
Hailing from Casino in northern New South Wales, Randall started his racing career at nearby Lismore Speedway and achieved considerable success during the ill-fated Grand National era, piloting a potent Torana against an array of exotic imported machinery around the tight confines of the picturesque showground circuit. Soon after, Randall was recruited by Ipswich-based team owner Ian Boettcher in what was to become a 20 year partnership that saw the team achieve some remarkable successes, most of which was aboard with a rotary-powered Mazda RX7. An amicable split midway through the 2004/2005 season saw Randall establish his own racing operation.
In addition to three Queensland Super Sedan Championship wins, Randall is a two-time winner in the Australian Super Sedan Grand Prix and a winner of the prestigious East Coast Grand National. He has accrued podium results in the New South Wales and Tasmanian titles and has also scored a runner-up finish in the Australian Super Sedan Championship. In 2003/2004, Randall took out the Super Sedan Association Championship Series and the following season he was selected to captain the Australian team in a series of Test Match events against the strongest American squad ever assembled in Australia.
A passionate advocate for the National Super Sedan Series and determined to retain his crown, Randall has updated his equipment for 2006/2007 and will have a brand new Danny Smith-built Rocket Pontiac Grand Prix at his disposal this season. As an experienced mechanic and performance engine builder with considerable expertise in racecar set-up through his very successful AFCO Shock Doctor venture, Randall is always willing to offer advice and assistance to fellow racers. With such a positive and professional attitude, coupled with his outstanding record of success across Australia, Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are very pleased to confirm defending champion Wayne Randall as the first contracted driver in the 2006/2007 National Super Sedan Series.
