National Champ Confirmed
20/09/07…NASR/ASCF Media Release
Throughout the second half of the 2006/2007 speedway season, Sunshine Coast-based Michael Gee swept all before him in an unprecedented run of success that saw him dominate the Super Sedan category across four states. Gee’s blitz started at the Kwinana Motorplex with a slashing victory in the Australian Super Sedan Championship and was followed in quick succession by an unbeaten performance in the Speedway Racing News Triple Crown, winning the final three rounds of the National Super Sedan Series over consecutive nights to become the most prolific feature race winner in NSSS history and secure a runner-up finish in the series. Upon returning home, Gee continued his winning ways and dominated the final weeks of the Queensland season in emphatic fashion.
Therefore, series organisers are very pleased to announce that Australian Super Sedan Champion Michael Gee will once again be showcasing his hard charging style – and looking to continue his amazing run of success – as a contracted driver with the 2007/2008 National Super Sedan Series. In addition to his race wins in NSSS competition over the last two seasons, Gee is the only driver to have scored maximum points in a NSSS round and it has only be some unfortunate and untimely mechanical gremlins that have prevented him snaring a NSSS title.
Soon after starting his speedway career in the Litre Sprintcar ranks, Gee quickly emerged as a standout performer, taking out the 1992/1993 Australian Championship at Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway. The 1996/1997 season saw Gee secure a second National Title at Gunnedah Speedway in New South Wales to become only the third driver to score multiple wins.
Continuing his relationship with car owner Dave Weatherall, Gee graduated into the Super Sedan ranks and the team wasted little time in accumulating some impressive results in Queensland and interstate. Gee scored a runner-up finish in the 1999/2000 New South Wales Super Sedan Championship at Parramatta City Raceway, immediately establishing himself as a force in the tin top ranks. To quash any notions that his Parramatta performance was a fluke, Gee duplicated the result the following year at Lismore Speedway with another second-place finish in the NSW Title.
The 2004/2005 season proved a watershed for the team with a typically spectacular outside swoop in the opening stages of the feature race propelling Gee to victory in the Queensland Super Sedan Championship at Bundaberg’s Carina Speedway. Twelve months later, Gee produced a repeat performance at Mackay Speedway to defend his title and become only the third driver to win back-to-back Queensland titles. Having scored feature race wins at more than ten different tracks in five states, Gee has proven adept at handling all track types and conditions, a key ingredient in the recipe for national series success.
With a new sponsorship deal expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks, Australian champion Michael Gee is the second contracted driver in the 2007/2008 National Super Sedan Series. Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are very pleased to confirm Gee’s place in the driver line-up along with defending series champion Wayne Randall.
