Miles racing team owner and driver Wayne Miles has joined forces with the Queensland Cancer Funds Natalie Wust in helping raise funds for the continued research into Cancer.
Due to our racing commitments throughout the country and our sport being predominately male, we have decided to concentrate on raising the awareness and funds for the early detection of Prostate cancer.
Over the next twelve months the Miles race team will travel to all parts of the country racing and will in conjunction with the racetracks, clubs and governing bodies, and of course fellow racers and the fans of speedway throughout Australia, help raise the awareness of prostrate cancer in men.
As Miles explains we will also be targeting women, as they are just as much apart of this, as the men themselves. We will be pushing the ladies of speedway to have their men tested. Miles calls this the leverage factor that wives and girlfriends have over their partners, in regards to the bloke’s financial commitments and time to their sport. The ladies are well aware of what we spend and the hours we put into this sport, so they will have a say in this matter as well. (don’t worry fellows they do know what we spend)
PROSTATE CANCER EFFECTS ONE IN THREE MEN:
Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer after skin cancer.
GOOD NEWS
Because most prostate cancers are slow growing and many occur in older men, they may not be a threat to life. A man may therefore have this cancer, but it may not cause him any trouble.
If prostate cancer is detected and treated before its spreads beyond the prostate, it can be cured. Surgery which removes the cancer the whole prostate, or radiotherapy which destroys the cancer, can cure it.

The team in conjunction with the Queensland cancer Fund will help raise funds throughout the year in several different areas and functions.

We will be raising funds by asking businesses to sponsor us on a dollar per lap basis that we run throughout the year. So every lap we run on the speedway track, your business will donate one dollar. It is anticipated that the team will run approximately 1000 laps for the year, and this will be capped at that.
