After the success of last season, which saw over 35,000 people in only 15 nights of racing pile through the Maryborough Speedway front gates, the club is ready to “crank it up” in the 2009/10 season.
The season will start with 2 practice nights, the first being on the 29th August and the second on the 12th September. These earlier nights, hope to get all local drivers insured, register and licensed before the traditional pre-season rush.
The season kicks off proper on the 26th September with a Family fun night that will feature the Free jumping castle, giveaways, crazy rollover cars and fireworks along with the first official appearance of Late Models. This meeting will no doubt fetch a big field of Super Streets out of the sheds early for the “Money in the Bank” race meeting.
31st October will be the second meeting of the season which will be the first of four V8 Super Shows for 2009/10. This meeting will be a SSA Series round along with 20th March and 15th May.
The awesome V8 Sprintcars make there first appearance on the 14th November for the annual Dash 4 Cash. With World Series Sprintcars starting the following week in Brisbane, Maryborough Speedway fans can expect another big V8 Sprintcar field come November.
With school holidays starting in mid December, the SSA Junior Sedans will contest the Queensland Title on the 19th December. This meeting will also feature the only appearance for the V8 Dirt Modifieds who will be in town for the Roosters Cup.
The first two night race meeting is scheduled for the 1st and 2nd January, which will see the first ever two-night round of the National Midget Speedcar Super Series. With added prize money and the prospect of a huge field of Midgets, fans from all country will converge on the Maryborough. The weekend will also see the next round of the prestigious Fraser Coast Modified Production Drivers Championship and with the weekend being a double points round, a big field is expected. Throw in Rollover cars, Fireworks and a club show for Super Sedans this will be a great way to greet 2010.
A new fixture for the club has been set down for 30th January, that being “Enduro Night” with the Midgets contesting a Summer 50 lapper, the Street Sedans the third running of the Mary 1000 – the 50 lapper and the Formula 500’s will take off the wings in the Wild & Wingless 40 lapper. These three longer events will certainly draw plenty of interest in a bid to get away from the normal, run of the mill formats.
The third round of the Fraser Coast Modified Production Drivers Championship and the return of the Late Models will be run on the 27th February, along with the Formula 500 State Series and the 2010 Queensland Title for the Junior Street Sedans.
20th March is the Rumble in the Jungle for the V8 Super Sedans and this show has a $3000 winners cheque which will have them queuing up from the capital city to be at this event. The Litre Sprintcars will also make a return for some more wheel to wheel action.
In a first for the Maryborough Speedway, the club will venture into un-chartered territory with scheduling of the “Good Friday” show. This meeting will feature the opening round of the Queensland V8 Sprintcar Easter Trial. Along with a monster fireworks show and the final round of the Modified Production Drivers Championship this will be a great night for the whole family at the alcohol free event.
The May long weekend (May 1st & 2nd), could possibly be the biggest of the season with the richest paying Modified Production event in the country. Drivers from everywhere will be in town for the $2500 to win “50 lap” Australian Open. The twist is, if any of the top 4 qualifiers wins from the back two rows of the feature race they will pocket a massive $5000. The Late Models will also be running the first Queensland Title for their division which is promises to be a fantastic occasion.
V8 Super Sedans are back on the 15th May along with the Wide Bay Title for the Litre Sprintcars. The Super Streets and 4 Cylinder Sedans will have there final hitout before there Queensland Titles which will be held over the June long weekend. June 12 & 13 is that weekend and the Formula 500 will also contest the Queensland Nationals and a monster fireworks show and the crazy rollover cars will send out the season in style.
The Maryborough Speedway is shaping up for a huge season and is looking forward to breaking last season’s spectator records. For more information on the Maryborough Speedway or to view the complete 09/10 season calendar, visit Maryborough Speedway.
