Ian Brims Wins in Brisbane…27/11/06…SSA Media Release

New South Wales Super Sedan champion Ian Brims became the sixth different winner from as many rounds with his victory in round six of the A.S. Concrete Pumping Super Sedan Championship Series at Brisbane International Speedway on Saturday night (November 25). After qualifying his Brims Earthmoving Monte Carlo on position three, Brims occupied second spot for much of the race before pouncing when runaway leader Darren Kane faltered with just two laps remaining.

Kane looked to have the race in his keeping, having established a lead of almost half a lap at one stage before a broken axle intervened and forced him to the infield.  Until that point, Kane had dominated the event and seemed certain to become the first driver to score multiple feature race wins this season.  However, it was not to be and he ultimately limped home at the back of the field, accruing enough points to maintain his series lead.

With Kane’s demise setting up another thrilling finish, the final dash to the chequer saw Brims withstand the best efforts of defending series champ Wayne Randall, who had advanced through the field after starting seventh.  Steve Jordan annexed third spot, bouncing back strongly from a heat race crash that relegated him to ninth on the grid.  Wayne Brims started on the outside front row but struggled throughout the latter stages of the event, ultimately salvaging a fourth-place finish. Des Korn enjoyed a timely return to form in finishing fifth ahead of Mark Pagel, with Dale Christensen, Peter Warren, Chris Albert and Frank Armstrong rounding out the top ten.

Allen Schultz, Kane and Lenny Black, who spent several laps on the infield, completed the finishers.  Amongst those who failed to go the distance were Barry Craft, Greg Maher, Allan Robertson, Steve Van Zeeland, Gavin Northfield and Paul Geary, who qualified inside the top six but exited the feature race on lap four when he slammed the wall in the back straight.

On a night featuring several spectacular incidents that had crews thrashing to effect repairs, heat wins were shared between Ian Brims, Jordan, Kane and Paul Geary.  In a preview of the misfortune to befall Kane later in the night, both Tania Smith and John McGeorge were forced infield while leading their opening heats from pole position and neither driver took part in the feature.  Tony Brinkman was also a casualty from the heats and failed to take his place in the feature race field.

Christensen took out the B Dash ahead of Korn, Randall, Lenny Black, Jordan and Albert, while the A Dash saw Kane outpace Wayne Brims, Ian Brims, Korn, Christensen and Geary.

The supporting Ian Boettcher Nissan Super Sedan Series saw heat wins fall in favour of Steve Pearce and Gavin Northfield, with Allen Robertson taking out the feature event ahead of Northfield, Allen Schultz, Alex Jenner and Bob Domjahn.
