Gartner Back for National Attack
NASR/ASCF Media Release…24/09/07
Since moving into the Super Sedan ranks several years ago, Penola’s Dave Gartner has established himself as one of South Australia’s very best competitors in the division, accumulating a string of strong results around the country. A regular fixture at all the major events across Australia, Gartner has enjoyed success at a variety of local and interstate venues. Subsequently, series organisers are very pleased to confirm Dave Gartner as the fourth competitor to be confirmed as a contracted driver with the 2007/2008 National Super Sedan Series.
Prior to making the move into Super Sedan competition, Gartner established himself as the most accomplished Street Stock competitor in history, winning five state titles and two national championships. His run of success started in the 1995/1996 season when he won both the Victorian and South Australian Championships. The following year, Gartner took out the South Australian title again before blitzing the field in the Australian Championship. The 1997/1998 season saw Gartner secure a second Victorian Championship and a third consecutive South Australian Championship before successfully defending his Australian Championship to become the only driver to win back-to-back national Street Stock titles, a record that remains today.
Looking for new challenges, Gartner enjoyed instant success in the Super Sedan ranks, taking out the Victorian Super Sedan Association (VSSA) Rookie of the Year award in 1999/2000 and won the Speedway City Cup the following year. Less than 12 months later, Gartner finished second in the Victorian Super Sedan Championship before taking out the South Australian Championship. The 2003/2004 Australian Super Sedan Championship at Murray Bridge produced one of Gartner’s most memorable performances when he stormed from the rear of the field aboard Bill Miller’s Pontiac to finish fourth.
In the inaugural National Super Sedan Series, Gartner was one of the standout performers, despite his unfamiliarity with many of the series venues, ultimately finishing sixth in the championship, which included a pole position and runner-up finish during round five in Brisbane. Gartner carried this form into high profile events and also secured runner-up finishes in the Murray Bridge Track Championship and the Victorian Super Sedan Championship. Last season, Gartner fronted for the opening NSSS round with a sparkling new Monte Carlo that had yet to turn a wheel. Despite the lack of any testing before the series commenced, Gartner was instantly on the pace and finished second in Brisbane once again during round two on his way to another top-ten finish in the championship. For the coming season, Gartner plans to contest a few shows in Queensland as part of his preparation for his NSSS assault.
With such an amazing record of success in both Street Stock and Super Sedan competition, Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are very pleased to confirm Dave Gartner as a contracted driver in the 2007/2008 National Super Sedan Series. Other drivers already confirmed for the series are Wayne Randall, Michael Gee and Brad Smith.
