Defending Super Sedan Association champion Wayne Brims started his title defence in the best possible fashion with a win in the opening round of the 2007/2008 Ian Boettcher Volkswagen Super Sedan Championship Series at Brisbane International Speedway on Saturday night (September 29).  Debuting a brand new Pontiac Grand Prix, Brims led throughout the feature event after qualifying on the outside front row.

In what was a family affair at the front of the field, Ian Brims (Brims Earthmoving Monte Carlo) started alongside his nephew on the front row and ultimately finished in second spot to complete his best start to the season for many years.  Former series champion Jamie McHugh (Ian Boettcher Race Parts Mazda RX8) annexed third place ahead of Chris Albert, with Craig McGeorge rounding out the top five in his return to competition aboard the AS Concrete Pumping Pontiac Grand Prix.  In a very depleted field, Trevor Brehmer was the other driver to go the distance in the feature.

Ian Brims was the standout performer in qualifying, winning the opening heat, finishing inside the top three in the remaining preliminaries and clocking the fastest lap of the night to secure pole position for the main event. However, it was Wayne Brims who led every lap of the shortened 15-lap feature event and established the early points advantage in the chase for the championship.

Wayne Brims and McGeorge also recorded heat wins, with McHugh and Gary Pagel the best of the rest during the preliminaries.  Pagel failed to take his place in the field for the feature event, with Steve Pearce and Barry Craft also unable to take their place on the grid.
