Brims Back on Top
18/10/07…SSA Media Release
Defending series champion Wayne Brims was in sensational form at Brisbane International Speedway on Saturday night (October 13), clinching his second feature race win from three starts in round three of the 2007/08 Ian Boettcher Volkswagen Super Sedan Championship Series. Brims dominated the night, clocking a new lap record, winning three heats and taking out the Dash to qualify on pole position for the 25-lap main event.
After trailing Jamie McHugh through the early stages of the feature, Brims assumed the lead on lap three and surged clear to finish undefeated and score maximum points. McHugh’s race ended on lap 17 with power steering failure, promoting Steve Pearce into second place momentarily before Darren Kane (Custom Transporters and Trailers Dodge) ultimately snared the runner-up spot in his first outing for the season.
Also making his first appearance for the season, Des Korn annexed third ahead of Chris Albert, Craig McGeorge and Steve Van Zeeland, with Maurie Williams and Allan Williams the only others to go the distance. Allan Robinson headed infield on lap 16, while Pearce and Ian Brims, who was running third at the time, exited the event on lap 20.
Heat race wins were shared between Brims (3), McHugh (2) and Pearce (1). No surprises in the Dash with Wayne Brims finishing ahead of McHugh, Pearce, Ian Brims, Kane and Korn.
With a win in the opening round and a third-place finish in round two, Brims has established a 75-point advantage over McHugh in the championship standings. Ian Brims sits third overall ahead of McGeorge, Albert and Pearce, with the next round to be decided this weekend (Saturday, October 20) at Rockhampton Speedway.
