Barklimore Seeks National Success…23/10/06…NASR/ASCF Media Release

Determined to bounce back from a 2005/2006 season interrupted by injury, Parkes’ Tony Barklimore has confirmed that he will once again be a part of the 2006/2007 National Super Sedan Series.  After a delayed start to the inaugural series last year because of a back injury, Barklimore finished the season strongly and, with a new car at his disposal for the coming season, he is primed to make amends and achieve national series success.

In recent years, Barklimore has been a lynchpin of the New South Wales Super Sedan scene and is widely recognised as one of the leading drivers in the state. Since joining the Super Sedan ranks in 1991, Barklimore has been a regular fixture at venues throughout the south-west of NSW such as Gilgandra, Dubbo and Wagga Wagga.  Whilst he has enjoyed plenty of success along the way, including Club Championship wins in both Gilgandra and Cobar, it is the last few years that have seen him burst into the national arena with some exceptional results both locally and interstate.

Barklimore is a strong supporter of the high profile races that are held annually and is a regular visitor to the various blue ribbon events staged around Australia each year. This willingness to take on Australia’s best drivers is now paying dividends and he has accumulated a string on excellent results. For example, the 2004/2005 season saw Barklimore etch himself into the record books as the winner of the inaugural New South Wales Super Sedan Series.  The six-round series was conducted at four venues throughout the state, with Barklimore taking out the opening round and finishing on the podium in five rounds on his way to the series championship.  Also during 2004/2005, Barklimore was selected to represent Australia against the United States in a Super Sedan Test Match at Gilgandra Speedway.

During the inaugural National Series last season, Barklimore finished 12th overall in the point standings despite missing the opening two rounds, his series campaign culminating with a very impressive fourth-place finish in the final round at Adelaide’s Speedway City circuit.  Also last season, Barklimore collected a feature race win at Gilgandra and annexed a runner-up finish in the New South Wales Super Sedan Championship at Gunnedah Speedway.

In addition to his on-track efforts, Barklimore has played a pivotal role in the establishment of Super Sedans NSW (Inc), an administrative and promotional organisation for Super Sedans that is ensuring the category continues to flourish throughout the state. With such a positive and professional attitude, coupled with his status as one of the leading drivers in the division, Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are very pleased to confirm Tony Barklimore as the eleventh contracted driver in the 2006/2007 National Super Sedan Series.

Other drivers confirmed for the 2006/2007 series include:  Wayne Randall, John Leslight, Brad Smith, Lucas Roberts, Michael Gee, Dave Gartner, Steve Vaughan, Paddy Ward, Bill Miller, Wayne Belk
