Aidan Raymont Takes Defence Jobs Qld Modified Title
Aidan Raymont Takes Defence Jobs Qld Modified Title…11/06/07…Pam Franz
Hometown hero Aidan Raymont won his first Queensland Title for Modified Production Sedans held at Mothar Mountain over the June Queens Birthday weekend on 9th & 10th June. Major sponsor of the event Defence Jobs were proud to be part of the successful weekend.
Aidan led the 40 lap feature event flag to flag to take victory infront of fellow club drivers Gavin Lorensen and Glenn Pagel with brother Mark Raymont and Dad Greg Raymont finishing in 4th and 5th respectively.
When it was time for the final starting positions to be determined defending Qld Champ Todd Doyle and Aidan Raymont were tied on equal points. Passing points were of no benefit to decide who would start from Pole Position, officials then reverted to lap times to determine the driver with the fastest lap. Aidan had recorded the fastest lap over Doyle by just a tiny 0.002 of a second.
The 40 lap event looked like it was going to be a Team Green affair when at one stage all three Green Fords filled positions 1,2 & 3.
Several drivers had a disastrous weekend with broken machinery taking its toll on drivers like Darryl Etherden, Michael Hally, Darren Baldwin, Travis Barron, Steve Price, Craig Mellor.
The highlight of the weekend for a representative of the Defence Force Recruiting Office – Jeanna - was a ride in the passenger seat of a Street Sedan owned by Trent Humphreys and driven by Steve Price. Although not during an official race Jeanna certainly got the feel of what an adrenalin rush is in a speedway car and was all smiles after the event.
The QSCA would like to congratulate the Gympie Saloon Car Club on their sterling efforts to make the weekend a very special weekend of Modifed Production racing. After a very wet week leading up the weekend the sun shone on Friday and throughout the weekend. Although the track on Friday night during the Practice session broke up in the corners steps were taken to ensure that the best possible track was provided on Saturday and Sunday nights racing with a smooth track ensuring close fast racing throughout the two nights.
The QSCA also extend thanks to Defence Force Recruiting personnel for their support and sponsorship of this race meeting.
