Upgrading work has already commenced at the Kingaroy Showgrounds, the home of speedway in Kingaroy. With the new fence upgrades and new catch fence this will enable all divisions to run at the treelined picturesque Kingaroy Showgrounds complex. The South Burnett Speedway Club are very excited with these upgrades which include a new surface to be laid down.

South Burnett Speedway Club is counting on strong support from their members to help see this project through to completion. If you are available and would like to offer your assistance please don’t hesitate to phone our new president Ashley Barron (0438326217) as many workers are required to help complete this project. There will be various jobs and times where people will be required to help mid week, before and after work, and weekends.

20/07/10…SSA Media Release

The Super Sedan Association held their annual Presentation Dinner in Brisbane on Saturday night (July 17) to recognise the achievements of competitors throughout the 2009/2010 season. Hosted by three-time Australian Super Sedan Champion Ron Pyne, more than 100 competitors and guests gathered at the Holiday Inn for a night of celebration and to acknowledge the outstanding performers of the last 12 months.

SSA President Paul Geary was confirmed as the winner of the season-long Freightliner Trucks Championship Series, with consistency and perseverance carrying the long time campaigner to his first SSA championship win. After an inauspicious start to the series with a DNF in the opening round at Brisbane International Speedway, Geary was a model of consistency from this point with a remarkable run that included nine consecutive top ten results, six of which were inside the top five. A minor hiccup in round 11 proved no obstacle as another top ten finish in round 12 was enough to clinch the championship when the final round at Gympie’s Mothar Mountain Speedway was ultimately washed out, leaving Geary more than 80 points clear of his nearest rival.

Steve Pearce also secured his best ever series result, finishing second in the championship ahead of former Modified Production pilot Michael Halley. Gavin Northfield finished fourth overall ahead of Matt Williams, Colin Hockley and Craig Torr, with Darren Kane, Ian Brims and Barry Craft rounding out the top ten. More than 60 drivers from three states took part in the 2009/2010 series, which is expected to be even bigger this season with a brand new Proton sedan for the 2010/2011 series champion courtesy of Ian Boettcher Proton.

The Sport Engines Development Series saw Justin Smithwick emerge as the series winner after a dominant display throughout the season that will surely see him move up to the championship series in 2010/2011. Jason Campbell finished second in the standings, with Kyall Fisher clinching third in a great result for the Roma-based team. Peter Smith, Lyall Fisher and Colin Moss were next in line ahead of Dempsie Pails, with Graeme Elliott, Brendan Doyle and John Tischler completing the top ten on this occasion.

In addition to his runner-up finish in the Development Series, Jason Campbell also picked up the Rookie of the Year Award. In an outstanding performance given his lack of experience in the category, Campbell qualified on the front row for the Grenville Anderson East Coast Grand National at Lismore Speedway and led for much of the race in very illustrious company.

The prestigious Geoff McHugh Memorial Award was presented to Matt Williams, recognising his attitude, effort and achievement throughout the season, which included victory in the Queensland Championship and the $5000-to-win Hosepro Classic. Another Rockhampton-based driver in Craig Torr was awarded Best Presented Car and Crew, while Darren Kane picked up the Hard Charger Award.

Williams and Torr, along with Smithwick, Kyall Fisher and Lyall Fisher, were also afforded special recognition for their efforts in travelling extensively from their regional Queensland bases to support the SSA schedule.

In what is a fantastic development for Super Sedan racing in Australia, the Queensland-based Super Sedan Association has created the richest regional Super Sedan competition in Australia, with a brand new Proton sedan secured as the prize for the winner of the SSA Championship this season. Having inked a naming-rights sponsorship deal with Ian Boettcher Proton, SSA President Paul Geary has announced that the winner of the 2010/2011 Ian Boettcher Proton Super Sedan Championship Series will win a Proton S16 valued at $11 990.

In confirming this unprecedented prize, Geary explained that “the Association has been working on this promotion for some time and, once again, we see the benefit of Ian Boettcher’s unwavering support of Super Sedan racing in Queensland”. Geary added that “the SSA will also be offering a $10,000 prizemoney pool to be distributed amongst those drivers finishing second to tenth in the championship standings. This acknowledges all the drivers who didn’t win the Proton S16 and will help encourage drivers to contest each round of the series. Of course, this prizemoney is in addition to the money on offer at each round”.

Queensland has long been the mecca of Super Sedan racing in Australia, producing many of the country’s most successful drivers and providing the strongest fields – both in quality and quantity – on a weekly basis. Geary is confident that this prize will lure even more drivers into the series, stating that “the Ian Boettcher Proton Championship Series is the richest of its type in Australia and we now hope to attract more interstate drivers to contest the series.”

The Proton S16 Sedan comes standard with power steering, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, alarm/immobilser, CD audio system, power windows, central locking, SRS drivers airbag, three-year unlimited kilometre warranty and free 24 hour roadside assistance. The car will be on display and serve as the pace car at every round of the 2010/2011 Ian Boettcher Proton Championship Series. “I’m grateful to the SSA Committee for their ongoing support and I’m glad that we can make this offer of a Proton S16 to the series winner”, stated Ian Boettcher following the announcement.

Further information about the 2010/2011 Ian Boettcher Proton Super Sedan Championship Series, including the schedule of events, additional sponsors and race format will be released in the coming weeks.

For the latest information about the Ian Boettcher Proton Super Sedan Championship Series, visit the SSA website at www.supersedan.com.au

After several months of planning, negotiation and coordination, the 2010/2011 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series schedule has been confirmed. In constructing the 2010/2011 calendar, series organisers have had to consider a range of factors to accommodate the needs of the various stakeholders. Subsequently, the 2010/2011 season will feature several exciting new initiatives as the championship is staged over an extended period. Nine rounds of racing have been confirmed across four states, with Sydney’s Parramatta City Raceway to host a series round for the first time.

The championship will once again get underway with three rounds of racing in Queensland, kicking off at Brisbane International Speedway on Monday, December 27. Gympie’s Mothar Mountain Speedway will host round two on Wednesday, December 29, with Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway slated for round three on New Year’s Day (Saturday, January 1). The additional time between each of the Queensland events will make it easier to secure replacement dates in the event of inclement weather and will provide teams with more time to prepare whilst enjoying the holiday season.

In a change from previous seasons, teams will travel direct from Queensland to South Australia for the three consecutive nights of racing that comprise the Tri-City Series which, for the first time, will start at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway on Friday, January 7. Round two will be staged at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway (Saturday, January 8), while Waarnambool’s Premier Speedway will once again host the Tri-City finale on Sunday, January 9.

Having contested six nights of racing in 14 days, teams will enjoy a well earned respite at the conclusion of the Tri-City Series before reconvening at Murray Bridge Speedway on January 22 for round seven. From here, many teams will trek to Tasmania for three weeks of racing that will culminate in the Australian Super Sedan Championship at Latrobe’s Bendigo Bank Arena on February 11 and 12.

In another series first, the championship will conclude in New South Wales this season with a double-header weekend of racing. The new Morris Park Speedway in Dubbo will host round eight of the championship on Friday, February 25 before teams converge on Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway for the NSSS Grand Final on Saturday, February 26. Having the final round of the championship and presentation dinner in Australia’s largest capital city is a very exciting development for the series.

Series organisers have made every effort to construct a schedule of events that satisfies that demands of sponsors, competitors, spectators and host venues. The spread of events this season will provide teams with more time to recover from the gruelling demands of the series whilst also allowing more opportunities for media coverage and promotional initiatives.

2010/2011 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series Schedule

Monday, December 27 – Brisbane International Speedway, Brisbane QLD

Wednesday, December 29 – Mothar Mountain Speedway, Gympie QLD

Saturday, January 1 – Charlton Raceway, Toowoomba QLD

Friday, January 7 – Borderline Speedway, Mount Gambier SA

Saturday, January 8 – Avalon Raceway, Geelong VIC

Sunday, January 9 – Premier Speedway, Waarnambool VIC

The second night of 2010 Super Street Sedan Title at Maryborough was postponed due to rain at race time on Sunday night. The day was an overcast day which kept moisture in the track for an extended period of time. When the race meeting was almost ready to start the showers which had been wetting Hervey Bay all day decided to move inland.

Only 3 racing events of Junior Sedans made it on to the race track. The Super Streets gave it their best shot to track pack and hot lap the track into a raceable condition to no avail. After further showers and long delays it was decided to postpone the event and attempt to complete it on Monday from 11am.

Maryborough Speedway offered patrons complimentaty Pass Outs that can be used at any race meeting in the 2010/11 season. Monday’s racing is free entry to Patrons and the Canteen will operate.

Only the 6 remaining heats of Super Street Sedans and the B and A Main events will be held today. It was an unfortunate end to the season for the Junior Sedans with several having their last race meeting in Juniors prior to moving on to other senior divisions.

The running of the first Central Queensland Modified Production title was held at Blackwater last weekend – a track which is 2 hours west of Rockhampton. Blackwater is in the heart of the mining basin. The track is 520 metres on the pole line and 5 or 6 cars wide. Although Blackwater has very limited members they schedule major race meetings for Super Sedans each season and have now added Modified Production racing to their calendar on a regular basis. Supporting the Modified Productions last weekend were Junior Sedans.

A good field of 18 Modified Productions including current Qld champion Aidan Raymont, current NSW champion Todd Doyle, Australian Open winner Shane MacDonald lined up to do battle. After three rounds of heats Townsville’s Wayne Gilroy was highest point scorer and led the 30 lap A Main event away with Steve Price on his outside. After several restarts the race finally got underway in a single file restart. Quite a few cars were already out of the race due to damage caused by drivers being eager to lead the first lap.

Modified Production heat wins went to Wayne Gilroy x 2, Gavin Fletcher, Steve Price, Jason Boss and Aidan Raymont.

Final placings in the CQ Modified Production Title event were Gavin Fletcher, Shane MacDonald, Aidan Raymont, Mark Ferguson, Wayne Gilroy, Rodney Pammenter, Myles Gilroy and Jeff Smith.

15 Junior Sedans put on a great show – multi title holder Cody Maroske led the charge in his Charade.

Junior Sedan heat wins went to Lillian Smith, Cody Maroske x 2, Dan Smith, Jayden Peacock and Kayla Barron.

Final placings were Cody Maroske, Sam Roza, Jayden Peacock, Brendan Learoyd, Brody Boss, James Kennedy, Kayla Barron, Dan Smith, Steve English, Brandon Otto, Jordan Ferguson, Simon Walker and Cara Bowen.

Blackwater is hosting 2 rounds of the Coal to Reef Modified Production Series in the 2010/11 season.
